Beginning at Bouchard Finlayson, this trail takes walkers along beautiful country trails and up through a spectacular kloof to reach Newton Johnson Wine Farm. It is a relatively short but steep hike, and walkers are well rewarded with lunch at Newton Johnson’s The Restaurant, an award winning restaurant with spectacular views of the valley.

Bouchard Finlayson Boutique Winery has established a global reputation for its flagship wine, the Galpin Peak Pinot Noir, which has won numerous awards and accolades. Other cultivars from the farm include Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Sangiovese, Chenin Blanc and Riesling as well as some newer varieties: Nebbiolo, Barbera and Mourvèdre – unusual in new-world wine growing regions but very well suited to the unique terroir.

The Newton Johnson family have been producing wine in the Hemel and Aarde Valley since the late 1990s and now offer a range of award winning wines, with a Pinot Noir centre piece. Their dining option, simply called The Restaurant, is known for a high level of culinary quality and spectacular views. It’s an experience that you will not want to rush, and it’s well worth the walk.
